Chunky beanie hat

Memo: I used 9mm circular needle all the way. I used 1 1/2 rolls. Cast 52 sts on provisional cast. Knit inner brim in stockinette for 4”. Continue with 1x1 rib for another 4”. Then join with your CO sts. Put CO sts on another circular needle, fold in, knit together like k2tog. Continue knitting till overall height reaches 7”. Start reducing in 4.

Round 1: “k2tog, knit 12” x 4
Round 2: knit each sts
Round 3: “k2tog, knit 11” x 4
Roind 4: knit each sts

repeat the process till 28 sts remains.

feedback: next time, try knit stitch, in stead of 1x1 rib on the brim. Start reducing at 6.5” height.

SimplE knit hat

Memo: cast on 108, rib stitch for 4”, using 4mm needle. Reduced to 96, using 5mm needle, knit for 3.6”. Start reducing. I followed the following pattern. I like this hat because it’s not tight and comfortable as it’s cotton.

Wool cable knit hat

Memo: I used 5mm needle all the way. Cast on 100sts (101 to use circular needle). 2sts rib for 5”. Repeat 5 motifs of 20 sts. Cross stitch every 8 rows. Start reducing around 34th row. Reduce 2 sts per motif, hence 10 sts per row. First, reduced each end of the cross stitches (right and left end). Then reduced from the purl stitches between cross stitches. Then back to cross stitches and reduced more. Reduced every other row till last two rows. Gather when 40 sts remain.

Again I used this pattern as a motif reference. I added a purl stitch in the middle of two cross stitches. This makes each cable pattern stand out more.

Cable knit hat

Picture
A new and more complicated design. It’ll be fun to explore variations in coming years, well... as long as my elbows allow me.

memo: cast on 80 sts, knit rib pattern for 5” or so, increase to 100sts, cross stitch every 8 rows. Start decreasing after 4th cross stitches. Stop decreasing when there are about 40 sts left.
Picture
I loosely followed this pattern.

Sourdough bread

Nothing like starting our day with a fresh bread from oven on a weekend morning.

memo: preheat oven with a Dutch oven pot inside at the highest (550F), cook for 30 mins with lid, uncover and cooked for another 10 mins, or till just before outside gets burnt. Felt softer to touch, probably due to 100% all-purpose flour.

My 4th hat of the season. I meant to make it for my self. But it fits my youngest the best. The 3 years old finally started to draw something other than scrabble today,
